Fluids for Your Honda Car
Oil: The oil in your car keeps your engine lubricated and protects it from damage. Old oil will become more of a sludge, which can't do this important job as well. Cars that use conventional oil generally need an oil change every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, while cars that use synthetic oil can go 7,5000 to 10,000 miles between changes.
Brake fluid: When you hit the brake pedal, a whole system of parts in your vehicle ensures that your car comes to a stop. Brake fluid is also a crucial part of that system. It can absorb water and become less effective over time, so most Honda mechanics suggest you replace it with new fluid every three years or so.
Transmission fluid: This performs a similar function to oil, but for the transmission. It lubricates parts and protects them from damage as your car shifts gears. You could need new transmission fluid every 30,000 miles or so, but some automatic vehicles last longer.
Coolant: Coolant, as its name implies, helps cool down and regulate the temperature of certain systems in your vehicle. Without sufficient coolant, your car can easily overheat. You will probably need a coolant change every 30,000 miles or so.
Windshield wiper fluid: You can also refill this yourself, but we'll top you off if we notice you need some. This cleans up your windshield and makes it easier to see, keeping you safer on the road even if you recently drove through some rough weather or terrain.
